Default exhaust system size.

Hello

Im going to use hooker headers, hooker front y-pipe, a strait pipe instead of the cat, then the stock rear y-pipe and finnish it off with some kind of preformance muffler ( havent decide what brand yet ).
But I start thinking that perhaps its not enough? And that I need to use dual 3 inch all the way? Se sign for my mods.

Since your headers terminate in 3" collectors it would be easiest to just go with 3" true duals, if you can find 3" input mufflers.

Hmm I dont know about "easiest", as that would force me to make a "new" dual exhaust. Instead of "just" using the hooker y pipe..

Well, a true dual exhaust would consist of separate pipes from each collector through the mufflers, right.

If you just want to use a Y-pipe setup, then for sure use 3" pipes.

You have an L98 right??

Default Two Y-pipes?

You sort of defeat the idea of duels by going from headers into a Y pipe
then a straight pipe, then another Y pipe. Go from your headers to your pre-cats and straight through to the mufflers. 2 3/4" should do it.

I dont really have a l98 as you can se in my sign. Not much is left from my old TPI setup.
What I mean about the front y-pipe is that im NOT using the stock y-pipe but the HOOKER 3inch ypipe that fit to my hooker super comps.

I started out the route of Hooker headers and Y pipe. The Hooker Y pipe is garbage. I and other member have had problems. The headers are nice.

My current setup is Hooker headers, true 3 inch dual exhaust, Dr. Gas X pipe, Randon metallic bullet cats, and Power Effects adjustable mufflers. It is expensive, but ready to meet the my growing HP needs. In the long run, I would have save money by doing it right in the first place.

Carl90, your setup is sort of what I had in mind...true duals without the Hooker front Y.

If I'm building a moderate to high HP motor that's the setup to go with.

The Random metalic cats are small enough (3.5 inch diameter) that you have tons of flexability on where to locate them.

Also, I had an exhaust pipe bung installed for a wide-band O2 sensor, which is on order. This is the way to go, if you are optimizing your PROM fuel tables.

One other comment...use stainless steel collector bolts. I never did so much swearing in my life when I had to hack saw of the rusted bolts after 3 years of the headers being in place.
