Default Choosing Brake System

I am considering doing a brake upgrade to Baer GT+ system for the front and Eradispeed rotors for the rear. I think that the GT+ is the same as C5 brakes.

I have seen in the Doug Rippie Motorsports website a complete Wilwood system including all four rotors and calipers and the master cylinder. Has anyone tried that system and is it a big improvement for a street car? Are there any problems with installation of the system?

Thanks for any opinions.

From what I have read in all the Mags, the stopping distance between a $ 4500 willwood or other system and the stock C5 is about 6 to maybe 16 feet. Closer to 6 from what I believe

The up grade to the C5 front brakes is relatively inexpensive. You will need caliper adapters (ed Salinas maybe $ 125) c5 calipers (90 t0 100 each) and C5 roters (60 +) the drilled and slotted are a waste except they look cool

For the rears, stay with your stock and add the DRM proportioning spring ($ 19 to 29) This will bring the rear brakes into the equation

For brake pads try the hawk? autocross not the all out race pads.

My 88 with above will stop from 60 to 0 in about 120 feet. The high $ systems don't beat it by much

And running road courses, etc where you are trying to take off aliitle speed, not coming to a complete stop, I find ( IMHO) little or no difference between stock C5 and the expensive upgrades

seeya

It's kind of like buying insurance. You don't know how much you will really need and you have to decide how much you are willing to pay.

The DRM website says that the Wilwood system will take you from 60 to 0 in 102 feet. I don't know if that will vary from car to car, but it is a significant difference.

Does anybody have any experience with the installation of the Wilwood system? Is it a bolt on system or are other modifications required?
