Default MAF question

When burning a chip, do you burn it for stock and/or gutted MAF sensor?

A while ago, I had a chip burned and have since upgraded and stuff isn't running right. I'm pretty sure they asked about the MAF. I had it ported and screens removed.

Well, I had a nitrous "pop" and it blew the wires out in my MAF, made it kinda run crappy after that .

The only thing other than plugs that I changed was a new MAF unit. Between the nitrous blow out and the new MAF I never did any WOT runs and when I went to the track, I was like 6 mph slower.

I could only think of the new MAF being the culprit here. Is it possible that my chip is programmed for the MAF's screens and heat sink out, and since they're not (yet) it's messing up my performance?

Another question is at what point does the MAF's screens and heat sink need to be removed for more power? I have a 383 with a super ram and 58 mm tb, so will a stock screened MAF flow enough, or do I need to open it up to get the airflow I require?

Any cfm requirements to hp charts?

You need to raise the MAF high value from 45 to 65 and raise all the values in the maf vs rpm table by at least 20-30%.

These changes will stop a maf high error being set and will allow the ecm to use the real MAF sensor reading instead of a fixed table value.

If you are running lean, you'll need to adjust the MAF Tables 1-6 in the lean areas (usually in table 1). Others have post how to do this.

Black if you nitro popped the MAf and it is running bad, you can easily tell if it is a MAF problem, simply disconnect the wires from the MAF start it up and see if it rins smoother ( it will be running off the MAP sensor) if it does, that tels the story...

Hope that helps

Your right, Blue sorry for the boo-boo

i do know that when I diconnected the MAF on both my 87 and 89 I hwas able to tell if there was a problem... I had to replace the MAF in both cars... and that was how i was able to eliminate the problem.

Hope this helps

I replaced the MAF (the old one had the wires blown out of it). No more codes, but if the chip was burned for a ported MAF, and I havent' ported the new one, it's not gonna run great right? If it's expecting a lot more airflow, won't it run too rich if it's not seeing the extra airflow that a ported MAF would flow?
