...This is starting to worry me because I know transmission work is expensive... Anyway, '94 LT1 6spd. Since I got the car in January I haven't really used the 1-4 shift much, I normally go 1-2-3-4 etc. Dunno if that matters or not, but anyway, I never used to have any of these types of problems; It's just come upon my car recently. I do mainly city driving, upshifting and downshifting. It's now a struggle to get into reverse. It doesn't want to go in at all... I finally have to just use muscle to shove it into reverse. Shifting into 1st is hard too, doesn't wanna go. Upshifting a gear, I have to rev-match or else it doesn't go in smoothly... it goes, but not smoothly at all. Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, it acts the same way. This isn't as bad as the reverse though. When the car is off, shifting is liquid smooth, I could only dream that my car would shift like that all the time. Anyway, is it my synchros? is there something I can check on this? and how expensive could this get if I need work done?
Sounds like the clutch actuator to me. Check your clutch fluid level, if it's low you will have to refill and bleed the system. Another possiblity is your master/slave cylinder are due for replacement.
If you press the clutch in neutral, while listening to the transmission, you should hear the gears stop turning. Slight whine while turning, completely quiet when clutch in. If not then your clutch is not disengaging.
I think Atok is correct, whenever clutch doesn't release properly it will
be difficult to get into gear. Do these have a bleeder at slave cylinder?
A lot of GM's don't and you have to pump the clutch pedal several times to remove air.I just hope it's a fluid thing and not a pressure plate problem which could cause similar characteristics.Good Luck
well if you put a skip shift in it and put the bypass in the wrong plug it will not go into to reverse with out a fight. i did this a couple years ago. lol. if you put a skip shift make sure its the right plug
