Im going back quite a few years here BUT I remember seeing a kit in Mid america that removed the dash BUBBLE and replaced it with a glovebox>>> the glovebox even had corvette embossed in it... It was somewhat expensive like 250-300 for the kit BUT IMHO it was the best looking alternative to the dash bubble..
Anyone remember who made them...I cant find them anywhere..
Im not talking about the map pocket ones or the flat plastic ones...this was a glovebox that opened and the door had corvette embossed into it. basically the way the car should have come in the first place..
I don't think they are avalible anymore. However here are some pics...
If you find someone who still has these for sale let me know I too would like to have one. Seems like the only solution to the crashpad that retains originality and adds functionality.....
Yeah I could literally KICK myself for not buying that when I first got the car>>>but It needed some interior switches and I decided to replace all the switches first and to buy that later>>> then it just disappeared... I thought it was pretty slick looking...I should have bought it when I saw it..
I do remember there being complaints about static problems when used on early cars where the ECU was inside the car..But I cant imagine it was such a big deal that they would stop manufacturing them>> UGH!!!
Actually in looking at that pic it looks different than the one I saw...the one that I saw the vent section did not fold down with the door... it had a break on the other side of the vent>>> it also sat back further into the dash.. But it was the same exact idea.. question is who made these things??
My understanding was that it ran the ECU under it...as in ECU sat somewhat flat instead of up and down and somehow attached to the bottom of it... thats why supposedly static electricity was a problem>> but there are ways around al of that..
I was hoping to find someone who actually owned one to see what the name of the company that used to make them was.. I mean something like that has to have a MOLD in existance somewhere Unless it was involved in a fire or something its not hard to bring a mold out of a box and run a few parts... Hell find ME the mold and Ill run the parts off myself..

Now that example above is the only one I've ever seen that didn't look like total crap. I actually like the "bumper". The flat panels some guys put there looks hideous, imo.
I looked at one of the glovebox type on ebay a few months ago, it went for like $120. I had the company name. I will have to see what I can dig up when I get home.
That would take a little work to install with a L98, where the ECM is just behind the dash, but might be possible.
Actually its no problem at all. I have one on my '86. The computer is tucked neatly behind it.
I have the one where the vent portion does not move. I have never seen any markings to indicate who made it, but the last time I had it out, I didn't bother to look on the back.
To be totally truthfull, I was suprised when I finally learned that ALL C4's DON'T have this. I almost didn't believe the first guy who told me that his didn't open and it was just a big foam pad.
I remember we talked about this dash mod a few years back. The company that makes the dash no longer makes what you seen in the pictures.I was looking everywhere for one myself when I had my 86 and I could not get one either.
If you get real, real lucky you might find one on ebay or at a swap meet.
I replaced my breadbox with a homemade flat panel, it leaves some to be desired as far as style but it beats the heck out of the breadbox.

SO MUCH WANT!
Hopefully a vender here will see this and replicate it.... better than this one even! using more modern technology to squeeze out more space and the like.
