I'm leaking a lot of fluid and it's coming from the power stering. I'm having to replace a lot of fluid and I'm wondering if there is any place other than the hoses that the leak can be coming from?
I'm planning on taking the accessories and brackets off over the pump to get a better look at where the problem could be.
Is there a different way to do this?
Thanks!
If you are lucky, it is a bad high pressure hose. Look at this hose carefully with a flashlight. GM replacement is expensive. $100 or so. A gates replacement is about $20. If you are unlucky it is the pump, or worse the rack!
My 92 was leaking at the pump and I replaced the seals and no more leak. Another place to look is the bottom of the res. as it is only made of plastic and cracks can appear.
Mine leaked at the pinion valve(input shaft)
I opted for a rebuilt quick ratio rack for $165 cad.
Thanks for the responces. I take it then that I will have to start removing things to find the leak?
Is there some other way to see it? From underneigh?
Thanks

I would start by degreasing the entire area, blow dry it off and then start the engine and turn the wheel, end to end several times.
Ramps would be a good help to locate the leak.
My 91 was leaking from the low pressure side to the cooler at the spot where it was routed over the frame. Could be pump, hose or the rack. good luck. If it is leaking a bunch finding the source should be a bit easier.

Yes thanks. I do understand the use of ramps. Matter of a fact I already drove it up on a pair of rino's. I just wasn't seeing anything that could help.
Where do I need to look from underneigh?
Is there rebuild kits for anything that might leak, or am I going to have to pay a visit to Mr. Goodwrentch?
