Default Engine Swap LS2 for LT1

Since the new LS2 is a small block engine I am wondering how hard it would be to put in a C4 in place of the LT1.

The first problem I see is will a transmission still bolt to the back of the engine since it is used with a transaxle?

I know in the past the small block was interchangeble regardless of the displacement. At least on my fathers 1960 were able to replace the 283 with a 327 and then a 350 by only retaining the exhaust headers to clear the steering gear box eveything else just bolted up no matter what Transmission was used a 3spd manual 4spd manual or an automatic trans they all bolted right up to the driveshaft without modification, because the overall package was the same length as the original.

If the LS2 would swap out for the LT1 that would be the easiest way to gain horsepower and torgue and you would have a new engine to boot.

It would be just as hard as doing a ls1 swap. Do a LT1 383 or 396 motor and be happy.

I did the LT1 swap into my 84 and I would think it would be the same problems here, wiring cooling, and assy's. S&P sells LS1 motor mount adapters and they should also work with the LS2 so it would get back to the other items I listed.

LS1/2 uses different locations of engine mountings and different transmission bolts locations !

I am not clear on what you are saying. The LS1 and LS2 are the same as far as I know (Both are diferent then std. SBC). I know that S&P sells an adapter plate that moves the motor mounts to the same location as a std. SBC and as far as I know it will bolt right up to a normal trany (ZF6, L460E ect..)

Here is a good site for LS2 info (including swap info)

I didn't have time yesterday, but a quick primer on the differences: Everything!

The only thing that the LSx/Vortec motors have in common with the previous SBC is bore center. No parts are interchangeable. The block is different, the heads, different, the crank, different. It might as well have been made by a different company.

I am talking about the new engine in the C6 it is a small block with 400 Hp and 400 Ft lbs of torgue. I gues my question is do this engine and the LT1 share a common block configuation that would allow sitting the LS2 were the LT1 sits in the engine bay without changing the motor mounts etc.

no. The LS2 is an evolution of the LS1/6. Reread my post of today.
