I'm planning my exhaust system, and while on summit's webpage, I notice in their heat wraps come wiht a disclaimer, "Using a heat wrap will void a Header's Warranty." Why is this? What possible negative effects could heat wrap have?
I dug around in the search a little and now i see that heat wrap almost works too well, it holds the heat in to the point that the headers become brittle... That doesnt really sound right to me... But are their alternatives to wrapping? Any companies make LT header heat shields?
Jet Hot is pretty reasonable - I bought my Hooker 2151 Long Tubes from them this week for $600 shippped - It would have been $525 shipped but it cost me to have them weld in the o2 bungs. I know that they'll coat anything you send them I think it's only a couple hundred bucks.
Same as above. Jet-hot coated hooker non-emissions headers. I think a pare of headers coated by them is between $2-250.00. I've heard the coating that (i think) headman and dyno-max use isn't good and will start peelind after a sort time. The jet-hots are for life.
I think i'm gonna give the wrap a try... My vette is just a weekend car so the headers wont be under too much abuse...and i think wrap would be more effective then coating?

My opinion is no, but thats just my opinion. The wrap will get just as hot as the headers, but does a better job of not letting that heat go any further to nearby components. You end up with hot wrap sitting there around the headers heating them even after the car is off.
The coating itself doesn't get as hot to begin with keeping the whole unit cooler. I can usually grab my coated headers with a full fist 10-12 minutes after the car has been off and its only warm. I wouldn't try it with a wrap.
don't ruin your headers with a wrap. have them coated internally & externally. use a heat resistant tape like DEI on nearby components (say, within 6 inches of the headers).
p.s. i agree with Scorp508, you're very confused by the looks of your avatar.
www.procryo.com they will do it for $175 and its the same thing jet hot does. they are a local shop my atlanta corvette group uses.
great family buisness. I love the job they did. Took 3 days!!!
good luck.
also you could heat wrap things such as fuel lines oil lines...etc..
