Default Oil pressure seems low

I recently purchased a 94 LT1 Coupe with only 26k miles on it, noticed the oil pressure seems kind of low to me. After warmed up, its around 19 psi at idle and around 39 psi cruising. Is this normal for this engine? If not, is this a sign of bad things to come?

No, thats not good, especially that cruise number.

It needs to be over 50psi anytime your foot is on the gas. I would suspect a dying oil pump, or a bad pressure sending unit. If thats not it, you have serious problems.

But in the meantime, do not rev the engine up, you must have 10psi for every 1000rpm youre running, so dont push that until youve found the solution.

Well this is how I started my friday night.. Take the vette out for a cruize.. well.. 20min into the trip noticed.. oil pressure light came on. 0psi.. then it went back up to around 47psi.. at idle sometimes it would read 30psi and sometimes 0psi.. Checked oil its fine.. no drip under the car.. whenever I pushed the gas the pressure would drop. to 0psi.. Maybe the a bad sensor? How do I test the oil pressure without the dash.. got a 85 BTW..

this problem happened to me...first the pressure went to max then stayed there.. replaced oil pressure sensor..now i have low presure 10 psi at idol...crusiin' 45...rechecked with test guage and found that the psi at idol is 35psi and cruzing at 55 psi...the real problem is the sensor .. ther are two kinds, one that reads 0-60 psi and the other 0-80 psi..they sold me the wrong one.. IT should be 0-60 psi for gauges and the other for lights.
