Default ZZ4 cam

I always see ZZ4 cams for sale on ebay that were removed from new crate engines. Is anyone running one of these in a L98? The specs. for my stock '87 cam are 202/206, .403/.415, 114 LCA. The ZZ4 cam specs. are 208/221, .474/.510, 112 LCA. I'm just curious if its worth the effort and how much of a performance increase there would be in a stock L98 with this cam and matching valve springs.

I ran that cam in my 1987 GTA 350 and the cam worked well, I have no idea how much power I gained because I did other changes at the same time. You should raise your idle to 750 RPM, the stock 600 is too low and the engine will not like to idle smooth. You will also have to check your retainer to guide clearance, I had to increase my clearance to run the higher lift.

Im running a ZZ4. Very mild but you will need a custom chip to get a good idle. I can't say what it will do for you on its own as I did other mods at the same time. If you plan on future mods on the mild side, its a good start. If you think you may wan't big HP later on look for a bigger cam.

Personally I think the IN/EX duration split is too much. If you had a very restrictive exhaust system, or poor flowing EX ports, it might work out ok. On a SB Chev, with decent heads and Ex, you want the EX duration no more than 10*higher than the IN. With some really good heads; like certain AFRs, you'll want about the same duration, on both sides. As you can see with your stock cam, the split is only 4*. JMHO

Hey
I got the zz-4 in mine but the idle is kind of lumpy and since my exhaust is stock then the extra duration is good I also live in cali so I could not modify heavily. But the cam it self arround 20chp. Port the plenum and siamese the runners get roller rockers about another 10-20?
and a Fule pressure regulator.
But it's ok for me hey the almost has the same number as the zz9. so for $150 it good in my opinion.
Hopefully I will hit the 300hp with my exhaust and chip.
