Tired valve springs would not probably show up until you reach higher rpm and then they float. Engine seems like it hit a rev limiter and you won't necessarily get a miss. This is if all or most springs are weak. If only one or two weak the other answers are also correct.
Depends on which valve the spring is weak, intake or exhaust where the back fire will occur. I'd say if you ran your car in 1st or second reaching a higher RPM you may be able to tell. Then again-it could be a lifter.

Generally, valve springs don't get "weak", they break. It's one of those components (like gears or axles) that work just fine right up until the point where they fail completely.
Once a valve spring breaks, the engine just drops that cylinder...permanently.
My own answer to the topic question: there are no symptoms of weak valve springs. Modern metallurgy (in the past 30 years that is) doesn't allow valve springs to get 'weak'.
That's my opinion.

Valve-springs do get "weak", especially with high rpm race-cars. They do it pretty quickly too;and are replaced at a regular interval. They just won't reach the RPMs anymore; same on a street car. It'll start missing at lower, and lower RPMs. If you run a weak one long enough, then it'll break.
Nobody has to believe me, but I challenge them to prove me wrong.

That's a good thing, because anybody that does believe you is going to be misled. Besides the testimony of hundreds of racers, what will it take to prove it to you? I think we're going to be at a disadvantage, because your mind is made up. Is there any room left for facts? This is NOT one of those, OPINION items.
