I believe it's called a divertor valve. It controls your vents, defrost, etc vacuum. Mine also broke. I got a new one fron the dealer (Chris @ Superior Chevrolet) He gives the forum members sweet discounts. Shipping will cost more than the part $5.00? Superior Chevrolet

I ordered extra stuff (like a new opti) @ cost plus 5% you can't beat it.
Coolness....that outta be at the local auto parts store.Pretty simple theory. All that HVAC and cruise stuff works but I guess the vents aren't quite up to snuff....that would it.It looks pretty heat beat on the underside.
Thx guys
The same thing broke on my 96. The car ran like crap. You have to go to the dealer to replace it. It has to be a dealer part. Nothing else will work. The drum has some special vacuum ports to it I was told.
I went to Advance auto and they had the same part.It a common GM piece. It was about $4.I replaced the little elbow too.another whooping $2.......lol.It does run better.Smooth is back.
