This is just an FYI for you guys. Magnaflow makes a number of dual in/out mufflers that have a perferated x pipe inside. I just got mine yesterday and will be replacing my center muffler with it.
Since I have a 383, LT headers and no cats, I need someway to have a more free flowing exhaust and quite it down.
Let us know if you like it. I have always thought about doing the same. If you have the stock pipes still, did you just buy the 3 in in/out mufflers to slide over the pipes? I would think it would be worthwhile for the x in the muffler and to remove the inlet to resonator that narrows to 2 1/4 inches, alone.
While I already have an x-pipe, I think the extra packing material around the x-core will quiet down the exhaust some. Do you have a part number??

This site does not state that it has a x pipe inside this muffler but I called Magnaflow and they siad it did. Sure enough when I recieved it yesterday it did. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universal/oval.htm
Please note that have not installed yet. The measurements that I have made indicate that it will fit. I will report back when I have it installed.

My plans are to go with 3" from the headers to just past the center muffler. After the center muffler I will have dual 3" electric cutouts to bypass the stock mufflers. Then I can go from steatlh mode to kick a@@ mode with a flip of a switch.
