Default forced air intake

with all this talk about the new vararam system for C4s and the vortex ect ect ect i was wondering if anybody had done any dyno testing or 1/4 testing on the forced air intake system that goes through the front lisence plate. this looks like the most efficient system designed so far. i know the vararam system for C5s dynos a hell of a lot as well as proving itself on the track and it seems to use the same "RAM AIR" system as the forced air system. just curious if there was any hard facts on this like i said dyno numbers or 1/4 mile testing

the air intake system on the LT1 is not its weak spot...I don't have one, but I'm going to guess that this mod isn't gonna give more than about (at max) 8-10chp or .1 in the 1/4 mile...

Dyno testing of the forced systems is next to impossible unless you're in a wind tunnel.

Here is are two links with pictures:

I've been planning to just get the diffuser and make a tube myself. The price for the tube and air box lid is outrageous.

Well I was thinking that the original air box lid could have a round hole cut into it and use a radiator hose for the tube. Or an intercooler hose. The slots in the stock lid could be closed by twisting them closed then using a sealant. That'd only cost a few dollars. I can't understand how they can charge 300 bucks for a modified air box lid. Heck the cut lid mod that places sell is around 50 isn't it? I cut my air box lid already though! Maybe I can make a shroud.

I bought mine off one of the members sometime ago, I wasnt willing to swallow the new purchase price. I love this system for its looks, as far as performance I havent taken it to the track. It does keep my overall temps down though, maybe its the cooler air coming into the engine? Its a well designed system. No surprises during install, straight foward. I would recommend this system to anyone. I used to live in WA state for 2 years and drove through some heavy rain and NEVER had any problems, K&N works like a charm. I think its a good idea to just buy the front diffuser and get a tube at home depot matched up to the plate portion. That being feed to a open air lid might work.....here is a pic of mine...see sig for another one

well the HP claim on the C5 vararam system may just be hot air but the 1/4 mile times seem to speak for themselves. thats why i was wondering if anyone had done any 1/4 mile times with and without the forced air system

The interesting perfomance test would be back to back testing of open lid/K&N vs. forced air on the track with several runs to get best average. My bet is no measurable improvement.

I measured no difference in temp above the air filter vs outside temp once the car got moving...hot engine air does not appear to work its way forward once you are moving. I'd like for someone else to do the same test to confirm/refute my results.

It works so well because the air is being forced into your intake at approximately the same MPH as your vehicle is traveling.
