Default Witch wire to unhook to set timing?

I'm looking at checking the timing this weekend. I unhook witch wire? Also how do I then adjust the timing? In my dodge I turn the base of the distributor. Any helps? Thank you!

On my 86' it is a single brown wire with a black stripe next to the brake booster toward the center of the car. It has a disconnect plug with a release tab.

To loosen the distributor hold down bolt you need a special wrench. I bought mine at sears a few weeks ago. I believe the size is 9/16". Once the bolt is loose you can adjust the distributor by turning it from the top.

HTH!

Yes, it is the 9/16ths. The wrench is about 9.95, and is an excellent tool.

Thank you! What special wrench? Is it a 9/16 crow foot? I'll take a look under the hood when I get home.

No, it is a Z shaped & box end. 1/2 on one end 9/16 on the other. Just ask for a distrib. wrench. Unless the clerk is a moron he will point it out to you.

If you have a crows foot, try it. It is likely to work. If you don't already own the crows foot, don't buy one for this job. Any parts store will have a distributer wrench. Take a look at the bolt. That will give you a pretty good idea what you need. Typically, Ford and Mopar use a 1/2". Most GM, a 9/16ths".
