What do you guys think? I will be pulling the engine apart very soon from the looks of things. I think 141k miles on the original water pump is pretty good, so lets replace that also.
Should I go OEM, or some sort of aftermarket high/flow? I'm not looking into a $300 electric water pump just quite yet, maybe later on.

I replaced my water pump at 70K when I recently did my intake manifold gaskets. I used the Edelbrock hiflow water pump, big waste of money.
I figured that at 70K, my stock pump might go anytime and while I had everything apart, it would be a good idea. I have noticed no drop in water temps at all. My suggestion is to buy a stock replacement.

Don't get an Edelbrock.. I spent an hour grinding down and shaping one of the nipples so the heater hose would fit on This was on Terror's car... OEM should be just fine.

Scorp, I went with a Carter by Federal Mogel listing at $93 (cost $80 and was available immediately). It bolted right up and pulleys aligned perfectly.
ZylaRace, actually the electric might cost more HP for a given flow rate due to losses in the DC motor. However, since the electric can be turned off, say during the 1/4 mi blast, it has a useful purpose.

I went with the Summit high flow job on my IROC. People always said that you run into overheating problems when putting a 350 into the 85s, but mine runs as cool as a cucumber with the stock radiator.

Scorp,
I bought one from AutoZone or Advance auto for my 350 and switched it over to my 383 when I installed it. It cost only $35-$40 and lasted well over 50,000 until the guy totalled the vette after I sold it to him. Perfect fit no problems what so ever.
For what its worth...

By now my GM unit would have expired under warranty.
Also 6 years ago when i bought my Vette, the waterpump had almost 80 K miles and was starting to whine..so I went to a local auto parts store and ordered a brand new OEM design pump for 80 bucks...it was GM unit in a box with the numbers grinded off.
I was suprised to see that in the box.
Anyways,Last year when I had my engine partially rebuilt again due to bad machine work the first time a few years back, I decided to get a new waterpump since my replacement was around 5 years old and I wanted a new pump to go with my engine. That OEM pump was still good, didnt make noise or leak, and Im saving it for a spare in case of an emergency.
I cant rem the name of the company on the box I got that pump from, but it was a new GM unit in the box, just labeled differently...you can ask your local stores to show you a pump and inspect it before buying.
So OEM should be just fine...or aftermarket.
I dont see any need to spend over a 100 bucks for a trick or stock pump.
I heard some horror stories about autozone pumps but all I have to say is it lasted a year (and still going fine)and will be replaced free if I ever need a new one.
Just rem. autozone and others doesnt make the pumps, they just sell them from a supplier.
But they offer one of the best warranty.
