I am starting to collect dead bose speaker amps. Mine seem to be dying at a regular pace. I have replaced with new, but would like to fix the dead ones to keep as spares. I have tried the common capacitor replacement
fix with no success. I am looking for a detailed schematic for the front and the rear
Bose gold local amps. Does anyone know where I can get them? Thanks for you help

Check the c-4 tech tips for the bose amp. Stewart Sloke is the editor. It 's a start

 

Those amp's are a real pain. How could Chevrolet put together a fantastic car with an audio system that's as bad as that Bose system ?? Between the amp's and the rotten radio reception the radio is a garbage candidate. It would be great if someone could rebuild those amp's so they don't go down as easy. And find a way to get a lot better radio reception.

 

Gordon Killebrews book talks about a "ground plane kit" that GM has to improve reception. It is a wire that acts something like a reflector that goes into the car. Normal rust buckets don't have the problem because of all of the metal. It would be worth a try.

Don, can you tell me the title etc. on Gordon's book so that one can be purchased ? There is a ground kit offered by Chevrolet for poor radio reception. TIA

 

You don't always require a schematic to troubleshoot an amplifier. I've never had a close look at my bose amp but amps are very similar. Is the fuse feeding the amp(s) blown? If so it's probably the output devices ( mosfets or bipolar transistors ). You can check them with an ohm-meter. Feel free to email me for more detailed info.

If there's enough interest, I'll yank my bose amps and maybe get into fixing them. What would it be worth to you for an amp repair?

I've got an 84, and it appears that when I use a tape all speakers work great. When I use the radio it appears that the drivers side speakers are not as loud as the passenger side. Is this the amp problem?

jg84 does the speaker in question pop when you turn the stereo on ? If so the amp is on it's way out.
