Just a couple minutes ago as I was looking for the ALDL link, I managed to push the U shaped piece of metal that was facing to the right, kinda like this < , and now it is sitting proud like a good U. The problem is I cant figure out how to get it back sideways and shut the door, because the door bounced off of the locking mechanism the first time The power locks don't put it back, and I had to pull the courtesy fuse so my battery wouldn't die. The only thing on now is the "Security" light. I dont think it can drain the battery in 7 hours, which is when my parents wake up. They take my keys every night when I get home not that it mattered because my car is so messed up. Anyways, any help with that is appreciated. My parents will freak if they see the door open and the dash ripped apart, they'll think I hotwired it

88L98, see my other post I noticed a couple loose bolts underneath the locking mechanism and in the process of hand tightening them for the moment(damn torx bolts) I hit the metal U thingy.

oh and you will need your keys to check the ALDL codes, so your gonna have to wait till you get your keys back. your parents sound like they are too nieve, or did you give em a reason to be like that

ok when you say you tightened the torx bolts, where were the located, on the edge of the door?

p.s. - no problem about the pic, anything to help out a vette driver willing to learn about his car

I didn't do anything that make them do what they do. I always have to bring the Vette home at 8 PM, and if I want to go back out, I can drive the beater car, a 1991 Buick Skylark with a 1 star crash protection rating for the driver. My mom is pretty crazy, and my dad just doesn't want me drag racing. So far it's working.

Yes, they were on the edge of the door above the remote hatch release. 3 bolts, one was secure, and the other two were hanging on by a thread! Those two were directly under the locking mechanism, and were at an angle. When I straightened them both out simultaneously, something inside the door shifted. The one in the middle now spins aimlessly and is temporarily held in place with tape, and far right bolt is secure.

ok go to your car, open the door, then pull up firmly on the outside door handle then with your other free hand slide the U back to the < position. fixed.

Booyah! That's the second problem you've helped solve! I should keep you on retainer.

Stormy652 owes 88L98 one six-pack of any brand of beer. (Note, only redeemable after 5/31/06)
