Which ePROM editor is best? TunerCATS, Promedit or WinBin? I've got TunerCATS but there is no RPM Fuel cut-off table. Car is an 85 with "870" ECM. Wondering about Promedit and WinBin.
I don't recall even being able to find a definition file for Promedit or Winbin when my '870 was still in my car. May be out there now though. If I remember right, the fuel cut-off is not a table but a constant and it's set high - like 9,000 RPM or more. Just going off memory though. -Jeff
you know, I don't even think the '870 has any provision for fuel cutoff by RPM. Only by MPH which is set to 255 at the factory in a vette. Some F-Body cars probably had the fuel cutoff at 118mph or so because they used H rated tires.
GRX, most people get rid of the '870 ECM for the '165 because of the slow datastream for diagnostic software. It's much easier to tune a car using the '165 because the data you collect is more precise. THere are a few other benefits to using the '165, one of which appears to be a fuel cutoff by RPM!
I'm preparing to swap to a 165 in my IROC as a matter of fact.
I've been camping out on the PROM board on thirdgen.org and found that Dave guy's site that lists what looks like all necessary info for this swap, but if you guys have any additional information related to swapping to the 165, I'd love to see it. The vette was set up somewhat differently than the F-body, but not much.
Jim, can you give me the Addy to that "Dave Guy" site? I'm thinking of doing the swap on my 85 as well. I'm currently having some tuning issues and can't get any info outa the 85 ECM.
