I recently trashed my nash 4+3 for a new Richmond 6 speed. I have some reservations about this tranny. Although its reputation is as a buletproof trans, it is a bit noisy.
Especially when warmed up. The Long shifter seems to resonate badly also. My solution is to incorporate a manual tranny cooler kit that GM offers for the C5. I'm hoping to keep the temps down, maintaing oil viscosity and HOPEFULLY maintaining decent gear noise.
I'm already using a vicosity that tolerates decent shifting. Any opinions/help please.
You might want to try different synthetic gear oils. Some work great and some don't. An oil cooler shouldn't be required unless you are doing some serious racing. I have a Richmond 5 spd that always made a lot of noise too. Shift kind of heavy too, but really strong. I also have a buddy with a 68 big block running a richmond six speed and his quieted down and shifted better after it wore in.
It may quiet down some after wear-in but mat still remain more noisy than a stock. The noise comes from the cut on the gears. Good luck with the 6 speed. Sid.
My car is noisy in 1st thru 3rd. You can hear the gear whine as it moves up. There is also a rattle coming from under the passenger side at WOT that seems transmission related, as it does not do this in neutral under revs.
But the trans shifs smoothly!! Other then the noise I get, it is a great trans. But since the rest of the car (engine and exhaust) also have alot to say :D ...its not that bad for me!! Especially when those F-bodies or Mustangs pull up and think I have a stock 87 Vette!!
