I sold my car last week and the new owner called me and said the headlights are not working. They worked fine for the 2 1/2 years I had the car and now they don't? Is there anything she could have done to make them not work all of a sudden? I am going to go look at it tonight, she said the lights come on but they do not go up. Does anyone have a picture of the fuse panel from the service manual they could post? I can't believe she has only had the car for one week and already broke it. I think it wants me back as the owner Maybe if I fix it I will get to take it around the block
On my '88 the TAIL fuse powers the LIGHT SWITCH which has a circuit breaker that provides power to the HEADLIGHT CONTORL UNITs (HCU) internal relay. There are two fusable links near the jump start junction block that power either headlight motor when this relay is activated.
If neither motor runs I would suspect the HCU or the LIGHT SWITCH.
The most likely reason why both headlight doors won't open is due to a broken ground.
All three relays share a ground which is behind the LH turn/park light. Each ground from the 3 relay coils is black and goes to this ground. The left and right side headlight and door motor has its own fusible link and I think that it is unlikely that both links are open circuit. Try to jump the common relay ground to the batt neg terminal and turn the headlights on. If the motors work, then you have an open ground connection.
