I've always replaced my brakes, buy my 88 is my first car with rear disc.Hayes manual is a little confusing, they say you can replace rear pads without removing calipers, is this true. HELP

I just replaced my rear pads February this year. Still need to take the bolt pins out and move the calipers out to replace the pads and squeeze the pistons back into the calipers.

If it's the same as my 92 they are a piece of cake. Got my pads from Jeff Kopp @ Superior Chevy @ around $36.00. Came with new mounting bolts as well. Takes longer to jack up the car & take the wheels off than do the brakes.

Just take out the single bolt at the top of the caliper (on both sides) and flip the caliper back out of the way. There is no bottom bolt only a pin it slides/swivels on.

Some say to take some fluid out of the reservoir but I just slowly pushed the piston back with a c-clamp, "very slowly"....

Took out the old pads...popped in the new pads using the wear sensor to ensure correct sides.... put in new bolt.... put on wheels.... drank a beer...... and let car down. Now my rotors were fine so they didn't have to be surfaced.

Your mileage may vary!
