What price should I be looking to pay for a 3" custom cat back?
I have a set of longtube headers ready to put on my car, but I'm going to need someone to create a custom 3" catback. Best quote i've gotten so far is $1100. I know if I brought $99 high flow cats to someone that they should be able to do this for like $600 if the headers are already on.
The best way to do this is buy the B&B 3" system($899) and specify the x-pipe, buy 2 3" bullet cats, and 4 3" band clamps. Cut the flanges off the headers and the B&B system with a reciprocating saw. Then it is a nice, clean bolt in job you can do yourself. The money you save on labor you can use to buy the stainless cat back B&B. It took me about 2 hours to do it on my car without cats. I can send you some pics. Shoot me your email...

Its a peice of cake to connect the EM and TPIS headers to a B&B 3" system.
Check it out in my picture above.
All you have to do is to extend the pipes to the header collectors. One side is like 6" and the other is like 11", have a exhaust shop swage the ends to slip over your pipes and to the collectors. Thats basically all there is to it, I welded mine to the B&B side and to the collectors is a slip fit with a HD band clamp.
i just had a shop i used to work at do a sys for my 85. from the manifolds into a custom y-pipe through a good 3" cat back into another y out to flowmaster mufflers with stainless tips. cost around 700-750. my cost was much less since they have been good friends since childhood. I did the single 3" cat and center pipe for immission reasons(factory had single cat) it looks and sounds great. but the trip out to utah might negate the price. thats my only knowledge in pricing.
in my experience flowmaster mufflers perform, sound, and last the best.

I'm not so sure about cutting the flanges off of the headers.... I have enough exhaust leaks as it is and that would be a good source of more if it doesn't fit exactly right.
