does anyone here know how much an lpe 383 costs? i'm thinking of getting one for ny c4 since my c5 deal went bust.

can you order a lpe 383 in crate fashon and install it yourself or do you have to send your car to their plant for installation?

will the tranny in my 92 auto be able to handle a lpe 383?

any answers would be apreciated, i'd like to know the answers to these questions before i call lpe so i dont appear ignorant to them.

thanks

I have their 440/480 package... I like it's performance and drivability VERY much.. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with the 420.. it was only $3000 more than my 383 totaling at just under $20 G's.

You will not find a more tried and true DURABLE combination. Mine has had a few small problems...but LPE stands behind their work..and FIXES the problem if need be.

They'll probably suggest a tranny re-build and looser convertor. After that you ought to be fine. Some 700R equipped C4's are going on their Few hundredth passes!

thanks for the price quotes nomar and kc...i sent for a catalog yesterday.

jay...did you have your lpe 440 installed at their facility? you said lpe fixes their egines and stands behind their work...i live in florida...if i had one of their engines installed and a problem arose how would lpe repair my car? would i have to ship my car back to them? if so would i have to eat the cost of transportation? i live in a town where there are no mechanics that i'd trust to fix a lpe engine/tranny combo.

thanks for your help.

As stated above for the LPE Superram 383 the crate price is $ 14,905.00.... you are too supply your ignition system and your currently used Fuel rails. In addition, headers and a loose torque converter is not included with that price.

Its my understanding that they do not do L98 engine conversions at LPE anymore and this motor is only available as a crate motor.... I could be wrong.

However, the move to the same motor with 420 cubic inches won't be just $ 3000 anymore... they want $ 22,485.00 for the 420 Superram motor nowadays with 510 HP and 562ftlbs.... What a torque monster !!!

Though expensive, I think its agreed by most they build strong reliable motors and appear to have above average service support.

Good Luck with your decision, I think you'll love either one... my motor is very close to the 440/480 version they offer and I love it.

cheers,
Beach Bum

"X"

I am a perfect example of "What if something happens and they have to fix it?" I sent My Car to them on April 21 for a small computer problem(Detonation) it was returned to me two days ago and runs like a race horse. They did fix the problem now FREE OF CHARGE. I had to cover shipping.

Yes,I did send the car there back in 1997(May) and got it back in November. I think if you have the $$$ and use someone like me as a reference, they'll take your car. I couldn't IMAGINE having it sent here then monkeying around with tuning this and that! oh no.. I'd go insane. It is soo worth the $$$ sending it to them, letting them work out the bugs..and you receive a smooth fast car.

Good Luck, if you need any assistance, drop me a line. Oh. My performance numbers are definitely what they said it'd do! 440 HP in a 3350 car with driver running 117 in the 1/4 equates right about to where my motor is powerwise! gotta love that.

It's a '92 eh? LT-1! Ah ha, they will take it. Mine is an L98. You ought to be good to go unless you want to tackle doing it.

Being that you only have a few posts and you don't tell your location I will assume you are new. Thus, I will say there are other options other than LPE. MTI, Agostino, and the list goes on. But those are two of the better know alternatives to LPE. And they will build it how you want. LPE builds it how they want(which isn't neccessarly a bad thing).

I know LPE uses factory head gaskets and head bolts. (Which again isn't neccessarly a bad thing). But if you want a more aggressive motor MTI, Agostino, might be a better alternative. For the most part LPE 383 cars run mid to low 12's in their stock LPE form with regular tires. Were as my 383 and MTI's ... run 12.0's to high 11's with regular tires. Due in some part to more aggresive cam. I also believe they give warrenties also. It really depends on your wants and needs.
Good luck
Brad
