Hmm, you could just take it apart and make the throttle cable go straight from the gas pedal to the throttle body. That however will screw up your cruise control and probably upset the computer.

There was a guy on here a day or two ago wanting to create a device that makes the ASR turn OFF by default when you start the car. He had already done it for the c5 so it's just a matter of time I'm sure. Something like that would probably be your best bet because you wouldn't do any perm. damage to your car the computer would still be happy.

being a firm believer of turning off the ASR first thing when getting in my 95, I have to tell this story, on my way to NY last Tuesday, it started raining around 9, it was dark and I had just come to the end of the Jersey turnpike exit 13 the gothels verazzano bridge exit when I left the toll booth there was an older gentlemen to my left so I need to take the left exit towards the gothels bridge well he wasn't speeding up, so I did to pass him, well as I sped up he got on his Oldsmobile and when I looked to merge left he was right there and cut me off forcing me to take the right exit which was not a good idea at 70 mph entering a 180 degree U turn on ramp in rain. so my brothers with me and had asked what the ASR light was at the last gas station stop, I told him traction control, and he said well does it work and of course I demonstrated for him so he said well wouldn't it be a good idea to use it in rain, and I said sure so I did, for the first time in 3 months I was missing the little orange light in my dash cluster. was dark in there. ok, so back 70 MPH into a hairpin wet road on ramp turn, being unfamiliar I didn't know what it was and being late dusk and rainy with bad road lighting made it a bit interesting, so I start the turn and I had no choice but to try and slow the machine down so I downshifted and got on the brakes immediately as I started the tight turn, so of course the front starts to wash out and I'm looking at the big curb getting closer, now I have the clutch out left foot on brake and right foot on gas and I here the abs clacking and ASR is clacking my dash looks like a Christmas tree, and then she caught, the rear stopped sliding sideways and the power came back on and the front was still iffy, but the back kicked out a tad and the front was in line and I slammed the pedal and kazaam, had her under control and took her through the corner nice and gentle. I look to my right and theres the palest image of my brother I've ever seen, and all I can do is break out laughing and think how close I just came to wiping out my wheels and possible other high dollar items, and I'm laughing hysterically, thinking how much of a rush it was to be in that situation, my brother comlimented me on my driving skill as he slowly relaxed his grip on the door arm rest which now has his hand impression permanantly on it =(, and said to me, "i just knew we were done for, i thought we were going to bounce over that curb for sure" to which i replied, "Cory, yes in your SUV, we would have been bouncing over the curb, or worse sliding on the side from turning to sharp, in the top heavy beast, but this is no SUV and it continues to amaze even me at what its capable of handling" to which he sat, smiled, and nodded and said " yeah, i can see that, that was scary but...kinda fun all at the same time" and we both started laughing and trying to find a way back towards the Bridges!! ok, so i am now a believer in having asr and abs, at least for those rainy day events!! sorry for thebook, just thought it was a good vette experience!

Under the hood, left engine bank. There is a black box labeled "ASR". There is a plug going into it. Pull it. ASR is gone until you plug it back in again. Note, this will make your ASR warning light appear on the information center console. Put a small piece of black tape over it and buy an "information center cover plate":

You will also find the information center cover plate to be beneficial for other irrelevant codes as well. Like my useless FX3 (adjustable shocks) has failed and defaulted to "sport mode". Since I never used anything but "sport mode" its a non-issue to me. So I taped over that light too. Its important to do this or every passenger in the car starts asking questions and you get really sick of explaining.

You can unplug the electrical connection rigth next to the underhood ASR unit. This sets a light on your dash, but the ASR wil be off all the time. I do this at the track so I don't forget to turn it off. I think SNKSKNR showed this to me.
