What is the proper way to install and adjust a new spring to the rear. I have dropped my spring, and didn't remember how the "shims" where on the old one. How do I set-up the new one.
Good luck.
And as a note, I beleive each spring code had a different spacer setup. I dont know if the spacers do anything more then control the height of the car, so might be able to test a few spots untill ride height is good.
Thanks for the mail
I got the FE1 setup on my car.
BUT how do I see If I have the "green" or "yellow" setup?
And Is the "spacers" the metal plates and the insulator the "paper like" shims?
So lets say i put 2 spacers (metal) abow and 1 under. Should I use the insulators to fil the "gap" abow the upper spacers? So there is no play?
Need some help..
While you can move the shims above or below (to lower the rear) the spring, you must keep the total "length" of the shim pack the same as stock. So the easiest way to lower the rear without going radical, nor having to buy the long bolts is to simply relocate the shims to the underside of the spring. It will lower the rear ~ 9/16" to 3/4". After you reinstall your spring, be sure to get the car aligned, because the rear toe and camber will have changed.
well. vettenuts did send me a copy of a manul witch told me how do shims a C4. The only thing i dident understand whas that it was 2 option for my car ( FE1 ) one with "yellow spring code" and onw with "green spring code". How can I tell what I have?
Regards
Somewhere on the spring, there should be a painted dot, yellow or green. It's about 1/2" in diameter. That should tell you how many shims to place where.
