You have a voltage regulator in the alternator that is oscillating. Proof, unplug the connector on the alternator while the engine is running, if the flickering stops, it is the voltage regulator. If you want to take the alternator apart, you can replace the voltage regulator, or even easier, buy another alternator.
i was fighting this problem....
alternator voltages would jump up to almost 18...
replaced the regulator (twice), did not fix it.
Took the alternator to autozone to test; it showed voltages anywhere from 2v, basically no charge, up to 18v...
still haven't figured that out, but I no longer care, as my new alternator works perfectly...
in the mean time, my old alternator killed th epower supply in my dash cluster, twice....
