I've heard of intake manifold coolant leaks being common on LT1s. Is this true and why? If so how expensive is it to have it fixed? Is it because bolt patterns are too far apart? Bad gasket surfaces? Weak design, prone to warping? I'm looking into buying a LT1 and need to know more about it. Thanks for any help.

LT1 oil leaks are commojn on the intake because they used bad silicone when they built them. happens to the majority of them

Intake manifold oil leaks are common on LT1 due to sucky silicone sealant that fails over time. They never leak coolant though because coolant doesn't flow through the intake on LT1's. It's the waterpump that always starts leaking the coolant.

I've had a leak at the front of my manifold for as long as I've had the car (2 years). I really should fix it sometime!

It will run about $350.00 at a dealer to have the intake gaskets replaced on a LT1. Had mine done 3 months ago.

LT1 intakes also leak oil because the intake bolts loosen from the heating and cooling cycles the engine sees.
