What transmission do I have?

I need a definitive answer on what transmission my '93 has. I have the earlier '93 (double sided serp belt). I am going to need a rebuild soon I'm guessing. It grinds a little during harder acceleration from 1st to 2nd shift. From reading other posts, I could lose 3rd or 4th, or everything all together, in a few months...a few days...or a year. I want to call around and get an idea of where I want to take it, and how much I'll be looking at...when it finally goes. What is the name of my tranny?

Your trans is a 700R4 derivative. I guess at that point it was a 4L60. That doesn't matter much for estimates, etc. When it comes time for the shop to rebuild it, they'll have the tranny in hand to make sure they have whatever parts are specific to it. For estimates just referencing it at a 700R4 should be good enough.
