My '87 never gets above 185 degrees and I replaced the thermostat last year. There's coolant leaking from the black box around the blower motor, and when the heats on, you can smell burnt coolant to the point that it burns my eyes. Is there anything else, which I'm really, really hoping, that could leak from that area? Or am I probably going to be spending a couple days yanking the core?

Actually, the A team started at the heater core and the B team started at the rear tail lights!
Some people, in warm climates, have just bypassed the heater rather than fix it. By pass is easy to do, just but a pipe nipple in between intake and outlet hoses
Mine is my daily driver. And winters here are not nice. So I have to bite the bullet and get it done. I'm going to contact a few HVAC shops tomorrow and see what I can get pricewise. I don't have the tools on campus to do this.
