Inside your exhaust tips - Color - ???

My 86vert was running rough on idle and surging. Checked codes and got a 33. Replaced the MAF and MAF relays (2). She's running great now. Noticed the color inside the exhaust tips has changed from black to light grey. The rich fuel smell on start up is gone also. I believe this light grey color is good??? What do you think.
