I looks like my antenna cable broke today on my 85. The antenna motor turns fine in both directions but the antenna is stuck in the up position. Should I just get the replacement cable only thru ecklers or is there an upgrade option. Also, any advice on how to remove that 20 year old locking nut off?
I just replaced my '85 antenna with a used '86 antenna. My motor burned out but the mast is still good, I replaced the mast a few years ago. Removing the taillights to reach in and hold the upper bezel nut while turning the larger nut was the easiest way for me to separate the two. Besides, when you replace it you'll have to get to the body grommet which seems easier to remove and install with the taillight out. There's other opinions. There is an upgrade antenna for sale on Ebay for around $110 I think. It uses the later rubber style bezel and later antenna but it bolts to the early C4. You could try to replace the mast, that's what I did when mine broke, but now my motor is toast so I went with a used one. Anyone need a dead '85 antenna with good mast?
The earlier C4 antenaes SUCK. I had to replace the mast on my 87 and my arm still hurts because of that damn nut.I shoulda upgraded to the newer style where the ribbon and antena are simply replaced from the top. MY suggestion is to upgrade if you plan on keeping your vette for along time.
MrRenoman, I would love the burned up antenna, I have one with a good motor, but the co-ax pulled apart, where are you at, and how much do you want for it? TIA

Same here.. damn you got to him first.
So you guys are saying on my 85 it has to be removed to replace the mast ribbon? I've had the antenna out before, you need two people.
