Default no start issue fixed that wasn't optispark

I had a problem with my '94 not starting a couple months ago that fixed itself before I could find the problem. Three weeks ago it seemed that it was getting a bit hard to start in the morning-just cranking longer than it should have to, then after another week it completely failed to start. Out of every ten times I cranked it, it would fire once then die immediately. Fuel pressure was fine, had spark, but putting "noid" test lights on the injectors while trying to turn the engine over showed the injectors were getting a very weak pulse from the computer. I wouldn't have believed it had it not fixed it, but it turns out that it was the mas air meter. I replaced it with a brand new GM one. None of the elements were broken inside, which turned me off initially to that being the culprit. What I've learned from this is go GM on any replacement mas air meter and don't de-screen it to begin with. Call Scoggin Dickey in Texas if you need one-they have the best deals. Although the screen looks like a restriction, the "venturi" of the meter necks down to approximately 71mm anyway- and then is further hurt by the cross-section of the airfoil. basically to say the "square inches" of open screen is much more than that. I saw the signal from the meter vary quite a bit more in grams/sec after the screen was removed and I saw no drop in restriction when on the chassis dyno. I'm sure the computer doesn't appreciate this. Anyway, I hope this helps others.--Brian Nutter-Wiseco Piston
