Unless I'm full throttle, upon takeoff car seems to drop into 2nd pretty early. Is there a 'best' way to keep it in first a little longer? Also plan on installing shift kit and 2400-2500 stall. Recommendations? Trans had supposed rebuild by AAhonk honk 2 years ago by original owner. From paperwork it looks like the modulator was replaced. 123k miles, BTW. Trans works fine other thanthat. Thanx!

Either that isn't a C4, or it's had a trans swap, or it's another, "ripoff" trans shop. All C4 autos came with the 700R4/4L60 or the electronic equivalent, the 4L60E. These transmissions don't have a modulator. Although it isn't to be used for adjusting the shift points, a mis adjusted TV cable could be the cause of early, part throttle shifts. Make sure it is adjusted correctly. If it is off, it could greatly reduce trans life. If it has 123,000 miles on it, like the modulator(?), the trans could easily be nearing the end of another life.
Perfect. Wouldn't doubt it. Have'nt crawled underneath, but it feels like a typical 700R. I would imagine the shifts would be firmer. I won't even enquire about the valve body . Whats the proper way to adjust this?
Im hoping this is the problem, Judging from the fact that the shift indicator is either broken or not hooked up. Thanks for taking the time!

My 93 does the same thing, but I always thought it was one of those "fuel savings" things.
Try resettinig the TV cable. Depress the tang and move the cable head a few clicks toward the firewall; then get into the car and depress the accelerator hard to the floor to set it.
If that doesn't help; just manually drop into 1st gear. You may need to really hold it back hard as the shifter boot tends to bunch up so that it doesn't want to stay in 1st gear position unless you "coax it".
Don't worry about it...
My 89 has shifted into 2nd almost immediately upon forward motion under light throttle since it was brand new.
This is not a problem under light throttle due to the abundant torque the L98 provides...IMO. A little annoying though if you decide to accelerate quicker just as it is shifting, you get a violent downshift to first and a little fishtail from the rear as it again shifts to 2nd.
I just hold it in "1" if I want to wind it out further for whatever reason to avoid the show described above for paranoid drivers next to me.
If I put it to the floor while in "D" it will wind up to ~ 5,000 and shift just fine.
BTW, I'm still running the factory 700r4, now with 127k miles and ~330 chp and 2800 stall.
If the tv cable is adjusted correctly then
the only way to change your shift points is by changing (weakening) the governor springs. This can be very tidious. Change...drive. Change...drive etc. Its not hard to do but I wouldn't recommend for a novice to do it unless you watch an experienced individual do it first.

Thanx for the feedback. What kind of mods are you running? How does your 2800 act? Just curious
See mods in my sig...basically improved intake, exhaust, and cam...
My 2600 (Vigilante) is very street friendly. It is allows for much higher revs upon launching, but if you are easy on it, the rpm's will only creep up a little more than stock. The only hitch I've seen is fuel consumption has suffered a bit.

I'll keep that in mind. I amplanning on a rebuild this spring; 24-2600 stall,AFR 180,Haven'tdecided on cam yet hedman 1-5/8 LT;R.T.cat, 2.5"exhaust.Hoping for 12.50's and pass ca.smog.Thanx for the feedback. You have a strong running car!
Its great to have reached the 12's, however my tune was very poor during my day at the track...the car will run deeper in the 12's after its sorted out.
Good luck with yours, it looks like you've been having a few headaches with it from seeing your other post(s)
Yeah, had a few. I brought most of them on myself by changin too many things at once, and basically just learning about EFI. Picking it up quick, thanx to a couple of you guys on C.F. Doing things over twice has become a way of life for me
