Default Wiper advice needed

86 z51 auto 33k

This am, tried to wipe dew off the windshield. Turned wipers on, then nothing. Turned them off. Messed with them physically, no obstacles, messed with the switch again, they came up just a tad and stuck there.

The washer still functions, but now they are locked halfway up. Checked the fuse, all OK. I don't want to apply pressure to get them back, any advice?

I'll get the haynes out tomorrow night and check the relay as well, but it just dawned on me that since we had to change the valve cover gaskets that the wiper motor cover was removed to allow for clearance.

I am betting that is the source.

Oh, and this has to be one of the busiest / best forums around. I always try to search first but if that turns up nothing, you guys are always right on top of it!
