I Have a 92 with 65K and it has been sitting for as long a a month without being used. The CD player was working fine when I parked the car but now when you put the cd in it makes a clicking noise and dosen't play then ejects the cd. I also get a loud pop sometimes from speakers. Put cd cleaner disk in but didn't help.
My '92 did the same thing once after sitting for a long period. I finally got it to work. Drive the car for 15 to 20 minutes with the radio playing and then try the CD. Mine seems to work better when it's warm. I had to keep putting the CD in; finally it accepted it. Also, use a fairly new CD, and try different CDs. Mine won't play a CD sometimes if it's even a little scratched. Since this happened, I haven't had any other problems, even after sitting for weeks again.

I guess these CD players are very touchy!
Trust me it will eventually die, Mine did what you are talking about for about 1 1/2 years now it is totally dead!
