How do I identify a 27 spline 700r4 from a 30 spline? I am considering swaping my ZF6 for a built 700r4, but I will pass on it if it a 27 spline unit. It has all Art Carr internals, a manual/ reverse valve body as well. It is also a non lock up unit. It has never been ia a car since it was rebuilt. I believe the transmission came out of an '87, so I am concerned.
Thanks ahead of time,
Tony

Look for a string of numbers on the boss where the pan mounts. They will be on the right side at the rear of the boss. The first digit will be the year it was built, in your case it should be 7. The next series of characters identify the model, place it was built and the serial no. The last 4 characters are the Julian date it was built and the shift that built it. The date you are looking for is July 6 1987, or Julian 186 or so. Do not have a Julian calendar handy. Additionally there should be some label stating when Art Carr built it. I would guess that any date after July 87 would have all updates. Hope all this helps.
