I see that your Vette is on the road now. Have you done your valve train yet or do you have a spare set of heads?
I'm in the midst of doing mine and came across a copla interesting "features" of the job (almost 1 step fwd & 2 back). The latest involves valve springs.
Since I'm using Ti retainers I've decided to not use the stock oil shedders. The steel retainers and shredders combine to add quite a bit of mass on top of the valve springs. I'm trying to raise the true "red line" so valve float won't be an issue if "chit happens" on a shift and the rev limiter is off a bit. Instead I'm going to shim the valve springs 0.030" to get the necessary install height (1.75"). That will give me about 90lbs seat pressure. Does that sound about right with you? I am running the stock cam with 1.6:1 rollers for a total lift of about 0.45" so coil bind won't be an issue. BTW, my GM Shop Manual tells me that stock seat pressure was about 76-84psi.
Hi, sorry. I was out with Fastguy picking up a '88 Coupe he just got.
The Vette is on the road, has been all along. Clutch works now though! I do have a spare set of heads that are going onto the car with all the other stuff.
I'm not sure what the stock pressures should be. The springs and such I am installing from LPE require an installed height of 1.90" and 130lbs seat pressure.
She's mechanically very very solid. I think it has 92000 on the clock right now. The paint will need redoing including one big "chunk" of paint missing from the hood, emblems, tires by the fall, and a few other small things. Nothing he is overly concerned with, as he plans for it to be a year round car.
It runs pretty darn good, he got on it a few times the way home and depending on how asleep I was at the stick, he'd either pull me slightly or we'd keep even. I checked the RPO codes and he's got the 2.73s in there. Not bad I thought.
