Low Oil Light. Why?

My optispark was changed last month, and the oil pan was dropped, and a new gasket was put in. Two weeks ago something strange started to happen. When I would turn on my car the low oil light would come on. But, if I turn it off, and start it back up right away, the light no longer comes on. Whats up with this??? It first happened when I was driving, and I paniced and pulled right over to a mobile and dumped half a quart of Mobil One, because when I read the dip stick it was a little on the low side. But now, every time it comes on and I check I have enough oil. Infact, the oil level is about a milimeter or two hightr than it should be. Is this bad, could I be doing damage by having too much oil in the motor??? How can I trust the oil light to come on if I really were low on oil?? I don't know what to do, any suggestions? Is it bad to have too much oil??? Thanks in advance

My "Low Oil Light" came on for the first time last night. I haven't gone out and checked yet. I know my car leaks, but it doesn't leak that much.
