Default Confused: PCV Valve...

**Edit: Problem solved. Thanks to those below that pointed out that I was looking on the wrong side of the engine **

Good morning all.

I headed out this morning to change the PCV valve (simple process, right?) but ran into some confusion. The part that I think is the PCV valve, looks nothing like it. The old one is just a rubber open hole without any kind of valve at all. Have a look at the pictures and please let me know if I'm looking at the wrong thing or if a previous owner had replaced the normal PCV Valve with an open tube (for whatever reason).
Even if I wanted to put the new PCV Valve in place of the old rubber "valve", it doesn't fit into the rubber fitting on the hose.

Thoughts?

If I'm looking at the wrong thing, please let me know where to look for the real deal.

Thanks...

Mark

The new one should be angled like the old one--Shouldn't it??

Maybe they gave you the wrong part.

That's the crankcase breather, not the PCV valve (although it's part of the PCV system). PCV valve should be on the other side of the engine.

Shake it; if it rattles it's the PCV, if not it's the breather.

On my 92', it's on the driver's side under the plastic cover (not sure what that cover is called).

If you look at the following picture, it's just above the word "this" but on the driver's side:

Right on! On a '92 it's on the driver's side. You have to remove the plastic fuel rail cover to get to it. You might have to loosen the throttle cable from its mounts, too.

If you break those plastic cable retainer clips, you can get them from the dealer. They get pretty fragile from the under hood heat.

Be careful removing the PCV valve as there are several fragile vacuum line in close proximity to it. If your PCV valve is O.E.M. or beyond its service life, it will be difficult to pull out as mine was.

Use a hose puller or a pair of vice-grips wrapped in a shop towel to remove it so you don't puncture the rubber hose. I purchased a Bosch PCV valve for $1.99 at AutoZone.
