About 2 years back, I was told "you don't have the stock chip in your car" when the dealer had to work on my 1992 Vert for an ASR problem.
Well, now that it's time to figure out what I have, it is slow going.
GM says I have "GM Upgraded Chip", but that is all. Markings are:
Delco number BAFL 3867
the only other series of numbers seen are "2245224" and "1172020".
Can anyone shed some light on this?
It appears that the former owner of the car did have some work done to the top side. He vaguely remembers "something" maybe injectors, he said. Well, it looks for sure that a new chip was part of the deal, but the shop that did the work was not GM and no longer is in business, so I'm not a lot closer to identifying this...
Naw - just want to know what I got, like the old adage, if you don't know where you are, will a map help you?
I am unsure if I have a stock cam or not, if I do upgrade the cam (assuming it is stock) will I upgrade the upgraded chip?
Are you suggesting this is a stock GM chip,... or an altered GM chip?
I am unsure what I have - Classic Chevy called it a non-stock chip 2 years ago. Another place called it a "GM Upgraded Chip".
IS there a decoder to go with the cals?
According to CalData the chip is from a '92 LT1 Corvette 6spd.
The odd thing is this, it has an emissions RPO of "NM8" which translates to "EMISSIONS SYSTEM, LEADED FUEL"..
Weird!!

Leaded fuel, great googily moogily, they went into a 22 year time warp!
Seriously thanks, first off.
Can anyone think why a leaded fuel emission tweak would be there?
Maybe your not understanding,....
It pretty much doesn't matter what the label says,.... if you don't know if it is the stock GM chip,.... anything can be in there. i.e. Any hacker could have changed the contents. You will have to compare the contents with a known stock GM chip. Either that,... or just go on faith that it is a stock chip.

Decoder? What is a decoder?
True enough - I thought that BDZP may mean one thing, BDBK another and BAFL yet another - all with some public definition ("decoder") for the acronym/letters.

Cars that were exported to Europe ran on leaded fuel. Someone probably managed to get their hands on an export chip and installed it. Many of the export chips pumped up the timing to take advantage of better quality fuel.
The 4 letter is a BCC code that id's the chip. As in your case,... shown above,.... 92 LT1 Corvette 6spd. The code tells it all,... body, eng, trans, emissions, gear ratio, tire size
What the tech referred to as an upgrade,.... I'd call nothing more than "another" chip. Better or worse, I wouldn't even speculate.
If the adv spark is true,... that would seem to indicate it is quicker,... depending on the fuel it is burning.
There use to be a few people hosting BCC info,... but I can't find the good ones anymore.

My guess is, you have a stock leaded fuel chip for a 92 stick Vette. Any 1/2 decent tuner would have labeled it, if it was altered. The only way to tell for sure would be to pull it & compare it.
Thank you very much[I] for digging around to get this info!
Now I'm in a interesting position - do I use something like a Comp Cam 304, and leave that chip in? It may work out fine. I tracked down the previous owner, who now remembers something being changed out with the injectors and maybe the chip being changed.

The current chip will work fine with the 304. Sure, you might leave a few hp on the table at WOT without specific tuning but it's clear by your cam selection that power is a secondary concern. Daily driveablity will be fine. You might consider adding some 1.6 roller rockers (and appropriate valve springs) to pick up another 10+ rwhp.

Would you think this chip, like a normal stock one, would need to be replaced if I threw in Crane 104227 cam?
