Need to check your kick down cable adjustment. The 88
trans basically is the same accept for some improvements.

Odd. I have an '85 and had the tranny shop rebuild my stock 700R4 with beefier parts to handle my mods.

He updated the internals to the later 700R4 and used special clutches, etc.. etc... What I noticed is that even at WOT the car locked into 4th at like 65MPH and shuddered like hell, barely accelerating.. Had him remove the sleeve and the car is runnign fine, even though it doesn't upshift at WOT to 4th. (I'm having him fix this hopefully this week)..

Wonder if it is some minute difference in the '85 valvebody or sleeve when used with a newer 700R4 or updated 700R4 to newer specs?

I just talked with Dana at probuilt and he said something to the same effect that some of the 88s have a aluminum dummy valve in the tcc control throttle valve train I hope this is my problem getting ready to pull and check right now.Thank all for your replys.

Another option is to install one of the over-ride switches that will allow you to flip a toggle switch to disable the converter lock-up feature until you want to engage it.

Flip: disable; flip : enable.

Can be installed without dropping the trans or even the pan.

I found the problem, now keep in mind s...t like this seems to only happen to me,my problem wasn't the tc it ended up being a fuel injector plug it seems that once the load that lockup put on the engine it would run unbalance and simulate converter shudder, this is a new engine to this car and is a bit stronger than the stock 167,000 engine, you would have to feel the before and after repair of the injector plug to believe it wasn't the converter.
