New Mass Mod
My buddy is doing some experimenting on his Vette.
(89 model)
Increasing the air a good bit. What are the problems going to be in this modification?
(anything trigger first in your minds?)
Has he overlooked something here...mainly the manifold pressure.....Possible damage to the engine.
It has 35% more air capacity and the original guts of the stock Mass......would be interested to hear what you guys have to say.
Thanks
Rain

there isn't really a problem, but it will not gain him any HP, this is not a restriction in the stock setup

I don't think the stock Maf will be calibrated properly for all increased air flow. Its probably going to require some tuning.

It should help some on the L98, since the MAF is a slight restriction.
Only problem will be tuning that and getting it to run properly.

That was my first reaction - tuning to handle the increase.
Will pass these along to him tomorrow -

I think the stock MAF will flow more than enough for a stock L98 and a modified MAF will flow to 750cfm which is air than a modified TPI can use.
I'm sure someone here has the equations to correlate cmf with chp.
And, as mentioned, the stock MAF is limited to 255 gm/sec though you could possibly get around this issue by changing tables in the EPROM.
Is the internal diameter 35% larger than that of the stock TPI MAF??
Since it only allows for more air flow, if the sensor wires are stil in the center of the tube, there should be no problems using that setup.

Meter wires have to be in the center - it measures air velocity and knowing the given dia. of the MAF housing the computer calculates total incoming air and directs the injectors to dump appropriate amount of fuel.. Methinks your "friend's" (lol, we know, it's ok!) contraption will run pretty lean...

Thanks for making the link to that topic.
THERE IS NOT A RESTRICTION WITH THE MAF
