Default A diagnostic tip

I had a problem on my Dodge pick up...I know it not a vette! but it applies to all computer controled cars. The problem was detonation, and no matter what grade of gas I used the problem got worst with time.
I found that the battery was the culprit! it was shorting out intermittently causing the ECM to act strangely. Bottom line is this make sure the battery and the connections are good. The ECM has to have a good supply of voltage to work properly or you will get strange problems that will drive you nuts.

Interesting... Can you tell us what steps you took to isolate the problem to the battery, so we can do the same?

Oddly enough, A friend of mine was also having driveabilty issues w/ a 96 or 97 V8 Dakota and it turned out to be the battery too. The weird part is that there were no starting issues, it just wouldn't run right.

Bingo! that was the same scenario. My clue to what happened was I noticed that the volt meter was a tad high and the starter was a bit slow on start, so I looked at the battery and the neg post was corroded and was wet with acid ( a bad sign) I replaced the battery and now it runs great.

That's really interesting. My '86 Runs like crap - has a miss somewhere and idles like crap. Never had issues getting her started, but at least one of the terminals is definitely leaking.

Even stranger, I don't get anything on the scanner when I plug it in :o
