this is probally a stupid question beacuse the c5 is wider. but would it be possile and practicle to put a c5 rear end in a c4? also what kind of diff do they have? dana 44?

Highly doubtful considering the C5's have rear-mounted transmissions.
anything is possible with sufficient amounts of welding... and it will take a lot of welding... did I mention lots of welding? Copious amounts, actually.
Its a transaxle... you would have to fabricate all the mounts... a TON of work but like bogus said... could be done but you better have access to a welder & a torch. Perhaps a whole C5 rear clip to take parts & measurements from.
