I just compleated a motor swap and a single mass conversion and now have a rattle under light throttle that sounds like it is in the trany. Is this normal for the single mass? I know that it makes some noise with the clutch pedal pressed in at idle but don't remember any other noises. I have the alum Fidenza if that maters.
I don't have a single mass FW but from what I've read what you described is what they do. You'll have gear rattle in neutral with the clutch out as well as very light throttle. Sounds like "rocks in a can". Apparently, it will not harm the transmission at all, just annoying.
I have a single mass. Rattles like crazy at idle but no rattle when in gear and accelerating. Spark knock maybe?
Update, I hooked up the laptop and made two WOT runs and two light throttle with the sound with no knock. BTW this thing is sick I turned off the ASR and it is hard to keep on the road. I hit it at 25 MPH and the car was compleatly sideways, With some tuning this is going to be a beast.

Reason: Hooked up the CPU and no knock
Umm, I have a dual mass, and it rattles when I shut the motor off, and once in a while under really low RPMs.. Kinda scarry, I was starting to think it's a loose clutch or something?

That normal?
I don't think so. Mine doesn't do it. Maybe the damper in your DM flywheel is worn out? If that were the case I would expect more of a clunk or clank.
I have a Fidanaza 13# FW as well, and while there is definitely that can of rocks rattling sound at idle (clutch engaged gets rid of about 80% of it)....which is annoying....there is NO rattling under acceleration. There is a low fluttering sound while in the lower RPMs (which isn't annoying), this is also normal with a lightweight FW.

ClarenceT,
I had this same rattling on my '94, and I thought it was a bad dual mass. Turns out it was the clutch fork rattling around on the ball stud. Whoever reassembled the clutch the previous time didn't grease the ball stud and the clutch fork basically cut the stud down to the point where it didn't fit tightly in the fork pivot hole.
Don't replace your dual mass until you check the fork first!
Thanks for all the replys,
It sounds as if what I have is the norm and I will just have to live with it. What is more anoying is the on off characteristics of this stage 3 set up. The cluctch is either on or off no between and it is a bit of a PITA in trafic. The good news is this new motor is a cpmpleate beast and I cant wait for final tuning next week and some dyno #s

The clutch will improve when you put some miles on it. Mine was like that after I replaced it.

Thank, that makes sense.. I thought fork too..
So the super loud gear whine from my '89 ZF6 is normal then too, due to the straight cut gears? it was starting to worry me, though meybe it needs oil?
