Where is the computer on a 1990 model? Took half of my dash apart today and think I found it, in the middle behind where the radio and climate controls are. Just wanted to verify.

What exactly are you looking for? The ECM is under the hood, drivers side relatively above the battery. Not positive on the CCM location.

Yep, when you pop the hood it nearly smacks you in the face

Yes you found the ccm. I changed mine 4 months ago and it was'nt any fun but now everthing in the instrument cluster works again. Well worth the aggravation.

Here's what you're looking for:

I think what you found under the PS dash is the tuner for the Bose.

I thought he might have found the DERM unit for the airbag system. It's right behind the stereo and air controls.

I thought that was the computer under the hood but when I took my dash apart yesterday I found something the is about 6 X 10 X 2 inches right behind the radio and climate controls and it is silver/aluminum color. I'll get a pic of it if I think about it. It looks alot like the computer did in a '86 model I had, that what confused me.

Can someone explain what the DERM unit is/does. I Haven't found a helms manual for sale cheap yet.

Man what a clustersmuck! That is the ccm, I hope you needed to do more to your dash than just get to the ccm. When I took mine out I went through the trans. tunnel on the drivers side. It was'nt easy, had to take both seats half the consel and the dash cluster out and drop the steerin wheel down but it sure looks a lot easier than putting your mess back together. Anyway look at your post for where is the mileage stored? for answer to do you need to keep the old ccm. Good luck if I can help let me know.

I am redoing a car that had a fire. That is the dash unit I bought off of ebay to replace what I needed.

Thanks for the info.

The CCM is where mileage is stored. You cannot change mileage outside the first 100 miles of a CCM. And it can only be done with a Tech-2 tool by a GM dealer.

The DERM unit is the control box for the Air Bag System. It also is located behind the Stereo Sys. it has a bright yellow covering over the wires that lead into it coming from the left and right frame sensor. It is about 5in by 4in. big. The frame sensors are located on the left and right side very close to the firewall. The wires come through the firewall in the footwell area behind the carpet. And from there they are covered in the bright yellow covering leading to the DERM. Only the1990 vette's have the INFL REST/ SEAT BELT LIGHT problem.
