Default Need new master cyl; rebuilt or new or what?

The bastard is leaking all over my booster, so I went to carquest, they have one in for $105, and it's a rebuilt unit. Is there some special place I should go to? Anyone offer life-time on these? I heard some place that rebuilt ones go back super fast, what gives?

Any advice is appreciated..

I just put a rebuilt into my '88; it was about $50 with the core from a local AC Delco parts store.

A new unit for my '88 would have run $260, so there was no decision on my part.

Is the ABS hard to bleed? Anything special?

I recently bought a new one on ebay. AC Delco. just around $100 after shipping.

I did a bench bleed, changed the bias spring, installed it. gravity bled the ABS module then did the old fashioned 2 man bleed at the furthest wheel out. (took all the wheels off)

It was one of the easiest repairs on this car yet

Auto zone 50 bux out the door with the core. Bench bleed it too, makes life easier.

Shop around...its possible to get a new A/C delco unit for around 120 or so...maybe a bit higher..I paid 100 new for a unit for my 86...I dont trust junk rebuild units from autobones or advance scrap stores...they usually dont last very long.
Every reman part I ever bought had to be returned and replaced3+ times for whatever it was...alternator,M/C,power steering pump, etc.
Never again!!

Theres also a guy you can call from superior chevy off the forum who may give you a good price.Give him a call too...I forget his number but will try and repost back later,Unless someone else beats me to it.His name is Chris and took over Jeff Kopps position at the parts dealership.

When you change the bias spring, do you have to bleed the master cylinder?

I've been in the parts business for 18 years - GO NEW!

Rebuild masters (especially aluminum) distort after honing and
are more likely to leak internally. Cast iron masters usually do better, but not for long.

Unless, of course, you're not keeping the car ............

I took the chance on a rebuilt unit on my old IROC about 10 years ago... After a couple of weeks it nearly killed me when it suddenly failed...

I only buy OEM parts because I don't like swapping those, "lifetime warranty" parts every couple of years or sooner when they fail... You don't save a lot when you factor in the inconvenience factor with cheaper parts...

And after my bad MC experience, I'll never take a chance again with something that my life may depend on...

Default Your best bet is to buy...

Buy a new one. Something just over $100.00 new. With a new one you do the job once. Save your time and money and buy a new one.
