Default Pop-ups again;

One thing after another... This time pop ups. They were working fine, with the pass. side one sticking a little, but it always made it with some effort. Today, both swing helplessly half up half down. Only way to put them up is to tilt the hood up, then hit the switch. What's the preferred fix for this? Am I looking at stripped gears or what?

If the headlights work fine (not over running, grinding, etc.) when the hood is open, look for obstructions in the path of the lights. I had the same issue with the DS before I repaired the attachment of one of the fan relays. It would move into the path and prevent the headlight from working. But, if you hear some grinding and overrunning, you're looking at bushings.

Two good tech tips:

Good luck.

Probably the bushings are shot, it's really an easy fix. You'll really spend more time getting the lights bolted back up properly than you will fixing the problem.

thanks guys, I'll try all that; but no, they ARE over running, I guess having the hood up helps ala gravity, I didn't see any obstructions.

PS. Today they opened fine, go figure; the motors keep going for a few secs after they're up though.

Yep then they man not work long sounds like bushings need to be replaced. I bought them on ebay for 4.00. If one is out the other will not be far behind.

Yup, sounds like your bushings. I fixed mine using nylon spacers from The Home Depot, but you can order the O.E.M. Delrin bushings from E-bay, Mid-America Motorworks (MAM) or Eckler's online, too.

Click this link if you want photos to accompany those printed instructions. It's not too hard of a job, should take you the better part of a Saturday or Sunday the first time out.
