I recently bought a '96 LT4 coupe. Got a couple of questions. The "service engine soon" light has come on a couple of times. The first time it went off after a few drivings; this time it's staying on. How do you read the trouble codes without a scan tool?
Also, the Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) doesn't work. Tried reprogramming the fob....nothing. Sometimes the PKE light comes lights-up on the Drivers Information Center; sometime it's out.
Otherwise; fantastic car. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you buy it from a private party or a dealer? I'm not sure about Maryland, but in Colorado the dealership is responsible for any "service engine" light.
Congrats on your purchase. 9 times out of 10, its an O2 Sensor. Take it to Autozone, they will scan it for free. If you have a lap top computer I would buy a scan software. Here are two. I have Digimoto for my 96. www.digimoto.com It cost about $100.00. Then there is www.auterraweb.com. This software will do the same as digimoto but you use a palm so. Email at quick96vette@yahoo.com if you need more info
Thanks for the inputs. I'll see what AutoZone has to say. Might be nice to have one of those scan tools. Wonder how much they cost. Christmas is coming
